Becca (she/her) is the doula at White Mountain Doula Services. Her training is through Doula Trainings International (DTI).
I live in the Mount Washington Valley with my husband, two sons, and pup. My interest in doula support emerged during my own birth preparation. I was devouring all literature pertaining to birth, with a special emphasis on birth physiology. I found this topic to be truly magical. At the time, I was living in Germany, a country where birth centers are covered by insurance, and a self-selected prenatal/postnatal midwife is the norm. This helped normalize birth for me, and highlighted how capable we are as birthing people with the right education and support. My hope is to spread this perception and empowerment, leaving families feeling confident and at ease in the perinatal period.
That being said, we live in a world of incredible medical capabilities that are undoubtedly necessary at times. My own births were completely different from one another. My first son was born via planned cesarean due to his breech positioning, and my second son was a very mellow, unmedicated VBAC. I look forward to drawing on these two very different experiences as I support all birth locations and preferences.
In the postpartum period that follows, I’m passionate about nurturing the whole family. This is a time for the parents and siblings to rest and adjust to new familial roles while their community and/or doula offers support. This support may be focused on tidying up and infant care, but it also may include insight and resource guidance for the birthing person’s physical and mental health. This is a safe space; no topic is taboo.
